I’ve been a reader my whole life (since I was two at least, if you can believe my mom). Science fiction, fantasy, horror, the occasional mystery or thriller when the mood strikes. Genre fiction, broadly defined, has been my constant companion through my childhood, through thirty years of writing and editing, through moves and jobs and all the ordinary chaos of a life. More than that, it’s really been a framework for how I think about the world.
After all, to paraphrase G. K. Chesterton, the tales tell us the dragons can be killed.
So it probably shouldn’t surprise anyone that when I decided to do something completely new, I landed here: opening a bookstore. Specifically, a science fiction and fantasy bookstore in League City, Texas, serving the communities between Houston and Galveston that have never had anything quite like this.
Multiversity will be a genre bookstore in the fullest sense. Primarily books, of course, but also comics, games, and collectibles. A place built for readers who love to argue about which character would win a fight, who have opinions about magic systems, and who have been waiting for a local store that actually speaks their language. I know those readers are out there, because I’m one of them!
Day by day, it’s taking shape. The LLC is established. I’m a member of the American Booksellers Association. I’ve completed the Professional Booksellers School. I’m in Pittsburgh right now, attending Winter Institute 2026, learning everything I can from the people who have been doing this longer than I have. The work is serious, and I’m taking it seriously.
A Kickstarter campaign is coming in March. A brick-and-mortar location is coming later this year. And I’ll document all of it here on the blog: the building, the learning, the books, and the community we’re creating together.
